Aupair in America

Aupairsatwork has partnered with an IAPA approved sponsor in the United States which allows girls between the age of 18 & 26 to travel to America to participate in the international exchange programme.

What We Offer

Aupairsatwork has partnered with Au Pair 4 Me which is an agency designated by the U.S. Department of State as an au pair program sponsor that offers American families childcare services that are a great alternative to day care centres and nannies. The au pair program is an educational and cultural exchange program designed to give foreign nationals a great opportunity to live with an American host family and participate directly in their home life while providing limited childcare services.

Through this program, exchange visitors and host families take part in a mutually rewarding, unique, intercultural opportunity. As au pairs provide live-in childcare they become a part of the host family. The host family will share with them their culture, traditions and language. This is the best solution for American families as they select an au pair who is carefully interviewed and screened by our representatives and who meets all of the requirements. Au Pairs provide up to 45 hours of child care each week including help with household duties related to children. The host family can arrange a weekly schedule based on their individual needs.

Programme Options

These au pairs have to provide at least 200 documented hours of childcare experience and complete our Orientation and Training Program;

What is an au pair

au pair |ō per| noun

‘Au Pair’ is a French phrase that translates, loosely, as “an equal” or “on par”. An au pair is a young foreign adult who is willing to explore American life and culture, make new friends, travel in the U.S., improve their English skills and attend a U.S. post-secondary educational institution. Au Pairs live with host families and provide reliable and responsible child care up to 45 hours a week. They stay in the U.S. legally on a J-1 visa and make a commitment to participate in the program for 12 months with the possibility to extend their stay for 6, 9 or 12 months.

All au pair candidates are carefully screened and interviewed by Au Pair 4 Me representatives and they have to provide at least 200 documented hours of childcare experience that may include working as a nanny, babysitter or teacher. Au pair candidates must fulfill a number of general requirements, and pass a background investigation, as well as demonstrate a desire to care for children. They must complete all requirements set forth by the U.S. Department of State and Au Pair 4 Me. To learn more about the au pair requirements go to Requirements.

An au pair is treated by the host family as a family member and participates in common meals, and American holidays, as well as family vacations. The purpose of the au pair stay in the U.S. is to learn the English language, get to know a new country and its culture, as well as share their knowledge, culture and traditions with the host family.

Responsibilities

An au pair can provide up to 45 hours a week of quality child care. Our au pairs support host families not only with childcare services, but also with some light household tasks related to host family’s children.

Responsibilities may include:

– Changing diapers, entertaining and feeding babies
– Bathing and dressing children
– Preparing meals and snacks for children
– Helping to keep children’s rooms tidy
– Helping with homework
– Doing children’s laundry
– Putting children to beds
– Taking children to parks, playgrounds and other activities
– Travelling with host family on vacations and providing care for their children
– Entertaining children and teaching them about your culture.

The au pair responsibilities are limited to child care and related duties. Au pairs should not be expected to perform tasks that are not related to children such as housecleaning, yard work or other types of work. However, as a family member, au pairs may be asked to help participate in duties that a typical family member would help with.

The au pair program is regulated by the U.S. Department of State and our agency makes sure that both au pairs and host families comply with the principles and rules of this program. To learn more about the Department of State regulations, go to: DOS regulations.
